Emanuel County Schools holds English Learner Family Night

With the help of community partners, Emanuel County Schools held an English Learner (EL) Family night program May 15, at Swainsboro Primary School that provided many family members and students with access to resources and services to support the success of our English Learners.

The event began with a warm welcome from Mrs. Alexandria Flowers, Emanuel County Institute and Twin City Elementary EL teacher. Thanks to the support of Advanced Metal Components, everyone enjoyed pizza. Mrs. Shari Watt shared community information and resources about the Animal Shelter and Franklin Memorial Library. Additionally, the attendees were informed about summer opportunities at East Georgia State College and Emanuel County Schools’ Summer Feeding program.

One of the highlights of the evening was an EL Success Presentation that showcased former EL students and their success. Following the presentation, students were given book bags to support their summer extended learning. The district’s Title III grant funded these book bags. The materials provide parents with activities, books, and instructions on working with their child in the summer to reduce learning loss.

Dr. Gail Greenway, Director of Federal Programs, expressed gratitude to the community partners and ECS staff who made the event possible. The English Language teachers, Andrea Davis, Alexandria Flowers, and Alison Smoyer, all worked hard to ensure the evening was enjoyable and meaningful for students and their families.
