Emanuel County Family Connection Inc., with Tammy Allen as its coordinator, is an organization comprised of members of the community committed to improving the well-being of children and families. The focus of our Family Connection is on literacy and nutrition, and this organization offers a scholarship to a graduating senior from each high school in Emanuel County. Funds for the scholarship are raised entirely through the sale of pecans by the members of the collaborative during the month of January. The graduating senior must reside in Emanuel County, has been accepted to an accredited two or four-year institution of higher learning, and has expressed an interest in returning to a rural community following graduation. Each applicant must complete an application
which includes a transcript, an essay on how the applicant plans to support the community after graduation, and a list of community and volunteer activities.
Recipients of the scholarships for the 2024-2025 school are Clayton Hood of David Emanuel Academy, Allie Rigdon of Emanuel County Institute and Tykerria Phillips of Swainsboro High School. Scholarships were presented by Petite Garrett, Pam Carr, and Tammy Allen, respectively, at each school’s honors program.
