Emanuel County 4-H Foundation – 4-H Volunteer Leaders’ Council 73rd annual meeting

The annual joint meeting of the Emanuel County 4-H Club Foundation and the Emanuel County 4-H Club Volunteer Leaders Council was held Tuesday, January 24, 2023, at 7:00 p.m. at the Varner 4-H Center. The meeting was called to order by Laura Moore, 4-H Foundation President. President Moore welcomed everyone to the 73rd annual foundation meeting. Emanuel County 4-H member Jonna Woodward led the Pledge to the American flag. The invocation was given by Wallee Kersey, Emanuel County 4-H member. Everyone enjoyed the delicious meal prepared by the food serving committee.

The following Hall of Fame awards were presented: Distinguished 4-H Alumni Award – Chesley Dixon; 4-H Club Appreciation Award – Brad Williams; W.A. Sutton Award – Jakyn Tyson. The 4-H College Scholarship recipients were recognized. The recipients were as follows: Tina L. Welch Scholarship – Jose Hernandez; Jerry Cadle Scholarship – Garrett Peebles; Parker/Brown Family Scholarship – Jack Williams.

Lynn Torrance introduced the speaker for the evening, Mr. David Porter. Mr. Porter is an Emanuel County 4-H Alumnus who was an active 4-Her since fifth grade. David spoke of how 4-H is a community of people who come from diverse backgrounds working together for a common goal. He recognized the people who played a major role in his involvement in 4-H. Mr. Porter stated that the 4-H legacy in Emanuel County will live on because of the selfless volunteers who display excellence in all they do.

President Moore introduced the officers’ nomination committee representative, Lynn Torrance. The officers nominated are as follows: Laura Moore, President; Phil Torrance, 1st Vice President; Shari Watt, 2nd Vice President; Martha Anders, Secretary; Scotty Hattaway, Treasurer.
