Ella Mae “Miss Doll” Phillips, 91

Mrs. Ella Mae Phillips, also known as “Miss Doll,” left this life peacefully July 25, 2020 at the age of 91.

Born December 7, 1928 in Emanuel County, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Annie Warren Adams, both of Burke County. In her early years, Mrs. Phillips became a member of the Trinity Baptist Church, where she was a devoted choir member. Later, Miss Doll became the choir mother. Miss Doll was known for having many talents. She enjoyed tending to her flowers, cooking, reading her Bible, loving her family, and helping anyone in need. She was a mother and grandmother to many. When her health began to decline, Mrs. Phillips was admitted to Pruitt Nursing Home, where she resided and was supported by her loving family and caregivers until her passing. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her four sisters, six brothers, one son, Tony Phillips, and one grandson, Raymon Cummings.

Survivors include three daughters, Annie Evans of Swainsboro, Erma Cummings of Jacksonville, Florida, and Barbara Williams of Forest Park; two sons: Johnny (Gene) Adams of Swainsboro and Alfred Phillips Jr. of Millen; one adopted son, George Taylor of Swainsboro; one brother-in-law, Freddie Hicks of Atlantic Beach, Florida; two sisters-in-law, Pearl Hicks and Ethel Randolph, both of Atlantic Beach; five goddaughters, Phyllis Strobridge, Netta Davis, Isabelle Frazier, Annette May, and Louvenia Martin; two godsons, Jesse Davis and Danny (Bookie) Davis Jr.; two granddaughters she raised liker her own, LaDwasha P. Alexander and Nikki P. Griffin; 20 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Graveside service were held Saturday, August 1, 2020 at 11 a.m. at Swainsboro City Cemetery.
