The East Georgia State College Lady Bobcats Softball Team defeated USC Salkehatchie on Tuesday, October 6, in a double header scrimmage at Bobcat Field by scores of 11 to 4 in game one and 14 to 6 in game two.
The Bobcats were led in game one at the plate by Sierra Taylor and McKenzie Wilkerson, who each had three RBI’s on two doubles. Allana Hooks continued her hitting ways with three RBI’s on three doubles in game one as the Bobcats scored seven runs in the second inning in route to an 11 to 4 game one victory.
On the mound for the Bobcats in game one against the Indians of USC Salkehatchie, was freshman Britney Foster picking up the victory with four complete innings of work. She allowed only two hits and two walks.
Game two would see the Bobcats continue their hitting ways with five Lady Bobcats having two hit performances at the plate: Allana Hooks, Sydney Baker, Maddie Denning, Katalina Losolla, and Sarah Harrell. Losolla hit a two-run blast over the left field fence in the first inning, and the Bobcats never looked back.
EGSC would score 14 runs on 13 hits, three walks and three USC errors, in route to the game two victory.
Payten Strickland would pick up the game two win with three scoreless innings of work allowing just one hit, zero walks and two errors.
For the day, the Lady Bobcats scored 25 runs on 24 hits while allowing just 10 total runs on the day.
“We have worked really hard on our batting and ability to hit the ball with power, and it truly shined today as we pounded out 24 hits in two games, scoring 25 runs. We need to continue to work on our defense as we are averaging two errors per game over the last six scrimmages, but that is what fall ball is for,” said head coach Chuck Wimberly.
Wimberly added, “I am extremely impressed with our pitching staff (Britney Foster, Josie Spradley, Madison Bussell, Maddie Cash, Hillarie Jackson, Payten Strickland, and Madison Poole) for each bringing different movement and speed to the plate against our opponents which allows for us to not have to leave one pitcher on the field for too long. This has been a tremendous advantage for us this fall and will continue to prove to be even more beneficial when we get to our regular season in Spring.”
