The ECI c-team baseball squad has secured the number one seed on their side of the region with a 12-0 regular season record.
The Bulldogs will host the first round of the region tournament on Tuesday, April 13. They will also host the second round on April 15 if they are successful in the first round. The Championship game is scheduled for April 17.
The team has been a scoring machine this year plating 143 runs for an average of 11.9 runs per game. The offense has put double digits on the scoreboard in nine of their twelve games this season.
The defense and pitching staff have been just as efficient allowing just 4 runs per game out scoring their opponents by almost 100 runs.
With the lopsided scores, just about every member of the team has toed the rubber for the Bulldogs. Spending time of the mound this season for the Bulldogs were Tyler Foreman, Kanyon Thompson, James Parker, Oisin Matthews, Ab Marsh, Jake Grimm, Gabe Lee, Cayden Jones, Tuff Boddiford, Max McBride and Jackson Kennedy.
The following are comments from head coach John Hodges.
“I am extremely proud and grateful for each member of our team. They have put in many hours of hard work and great effort to get to this point in the season. We have been blessed with great support from our parents, school administration and athletic department. There have been many people who have stepped in and helped us by feeding the guys, offering encouragement and just showing up to support us.”
“Our Journey to get to this point began 3 years ago with our core group of 8th graders. In that season we were able to build a foundation of fundamentals that have helped us to improve”.
“We have tried to build to this program in a way that is as balanced as it can be grade-wise. Each group brings different strengths and abilities and we have relied on our older players to help the younger one understand how we practice and the expectations we have for them.”
“The main reason this season has been so special is because the older players remember where they were a few years ago and appreciate how much we have improved. The hunger to improve and finish the season the way we want to is what drives every practice and game.”
“There is still room for improvement as we pursue that complete game. Hopefully we will get close to that on Tuesday and it will propel us forward into the rest of the playoffs.”
This 2021 middle school team is led by head coach John Hodges and assistant coach David Hodges.
