At 1:41 a.m. on Thursday, October 15, Emanuel County EMS, firefighters and sheriff’s deputies were sent to Highway 56 South for a crash. Two medic units, Rescue 1 from Swainsboro, and responding deputies located a Honda Ridgeline 4-door pickup off the roadway with two injured persons.

Due to the serious injuries found, an Air-Evac helicopter was required, but was unable to respond to render flight assistance because of fog conditions.

The injured male driver and female passenger were transported to the trauma center in Macon by EMS. A third occupant of the vehicle, believed to be injured, fled from the crash scene, and was not located.

The crash occurred on the curve past Norristown-Covena Road. After leaving the roadway, the vehicle struck a cement pipe, hit a curve sign (which smashed the windshield), and ended up hitting a large cement culvert in a ditch.

A trooper from Post 19 of the Georgia State Patrol investigated the crash.
