An award presentation honoring Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) Special Agent Eugene Howard took place Thursday, January 20, at 9 a.m. at the County Commissioner's meeting room housed in the John C. Coleman Hotel. Presenting special recognition to Special Agent Howard was Middle Judicial Circuit District Attorney Tripp Fitzner, who stated "It is important to me as District Attorney that we recognize law enforcement for their hard work."

Last year, the Middle Judicial Circuit District Attorney's Office prosecuted the Tony Williams murder case. The high-profile case, consisted of a culimination of years of work on part of the Emanuel County Sheriff's Office, Swainsboro Police Department, Drug Task Force, GBI and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), was deemed a successful win for the middle judicial circuit as a result of the successful joint effort partnership with law enforcement.

"It was this partnership that made the case successful as well as the individual contributions of each and every member of law enforcement involved," District Attorney Fitzner commented. "However, one person stood out for not only dedicating years of his life but also taking these disparate threats of cases and helping us entwine them into a singular case. That person is Special Agent Eugene Howard of the GBI."

The award was presented to Special Agent Howard as a gesture of gratitude for his contribution, and District Attorney Fitzner plans for additional presentations to be made by his office in the future.

"This award was to thank Special Agent Howard for his contribution. As District Attorney, I intend to continue to acknowledge the achievements of our law enforcement in making our communities safer for everyone," Fitzner concluded.
