Della Catherine Townsend of Kite, went to be with her Lord and Savior on December 27, 2021. A graveside service was held January 4, 2022, at 11 a.m. at Sardis Cemetery with Reverend Burton Dixon officiating.
Born on April 25, 1944, Della was reared in Tionesta, Pennsylvania, and moved to Kite with her parents as a young adult. She operated a karate studio and was an amateur poultry orthopedist, giving advice to poultry owners across the globe. Della loved animals and took in many strays. She was a faithful member of the Kite Prayer Breakfast Group. Ms. Townsend is preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Effie Townsend.
Ms. Townsend is survived by numerous cousins and many friends. Kite First Baptist Church, where she was a member and sang in the choir, was her adopted family, demonstrating their love for her in many ways.
Family and friends extend thanks to Dr. James Ray and Community Hospice of Vidalia for their professional and compassionate care of Della.
