DEA visits the Fulford Center Planetarium

David Emanuel Academy (DEA) third and fourth graders recently visited the planetarium at the Sudie A. Fulford Community Learning Center at East Georgia State College.

Dianne Lawson’s third grade class and Brandi Mills’ fourth grade class watched the planetarium show entitled “The Little Star that Could.” The show explained to students the importance of the sun, planets, and the moon. The students learned other interesting facts about the solar system also.

After the show, students were able to join Erin Youmans and Kim Hooks with Magnolia Midlands Georgia Youth Science and Technology Centers (GYSTC) for an activity that connected with the planetarium show. The students used replicas of planets to organize the solar system. Once they had the planets in place, they made a paper rocket that they launched to see how far their rocket could travel into the solar system.
