DEA received cabbage plants

Bonnie Plant Company provided David Emanuel Academy with cabbage plants the last of March for 23 third graders. This cabbage growing contest is sponsored by Emanuel County Farm Bureau Women’s Committee. The students take the plants home and care for them by watering, fertilizing and weeding, if necessary, to see who can grow the largest plant. Since the plants were received late, they were not able to bring the plants back before school turned out. Three students brought their plants to the Farm Bureau office on July 26 to have them weighed. Dalton Flowers was the winner with a 9 ½ lb. cabbage. Runner up was Farrah Williamson with a 5 ¼ lb. cabbage and Milly James Farmer came in third with a 1 lb. cabbage. Dalton was awarded a cash prize by the ECFB Women’s committee.
