DEA battles during baseball playoffs

On May 1, the David Emanuel Academy varsity Eagles baseball team faced off against the John Hancock Rebels in Stillmore for the 1st Round of the GIAA State Playoffs. In game 1 of this match up, the Eagles were able to come away with the win with a score of 10-0. Brody Fleming pitched 4 innings and recorded 11 strikeouts, and he also went 2 for 3 at the plate scoring 2 runs and hitting a homerun. Cavan Calhoun pitched for 1 inning and earned 2 strikeouts, and he went 1 for 2 at the plate with one double and one run scored. Clayton Hood went 1 for 2 hitting a double and scoring 2 runs. Riley Griner went 1 for 2 with a double, and Tucker Free went 1 for 4 with a double. Jaxson Wiggins went 1 for 2 scoring 1 run, and Cooper Riner also scored 1 run.

In game 2 versus the Rebels, the Eagles won 18-2. Richard Braddy pitched 4 innings and racked up 6 strikeouts. Clayton Hood pitched for 1 inning and struck out 3 batters, and he went 3 for 3 at the plate hitting a double and scoring 2 runs. Tucker Free went 1 for 4 with a double and one run scored. Sailor Powell went 1 for 1 and scored a run. Brody Fleming went 1 for 2 hitting a double and scoring 3 runs. Jaxson Wiggins went 2 for 4 with a double and scored 5 runs. Cavan Calhoun went 1 for 1 and scored 1 run. Jay Carter went 1 for 4 and scored a run. Cooper Riner scored 1 run, and Judd Wilkes scored 2 runs.

On May 5, the Eagles traveled to Woodbury to compete against Flint River Academy for the 2nd round of the GIAA State Playoffs. In game 1, DEA put up a hard fight but lost 10-6. Brody Fleming pitched 5 innings and had 6 strikeouts. Riley Griner pitched for 1 inning and had 1 strikeout, and he went 1 for 3 at the plate with a double. Tucker Free went 1 for 5 at the plate hitting a double and scoring 1 run. Clayton Hood went 2 for 3, hitting a homerun and scoring 2 runs. Cooper Riner went 1 for 3 and scored 1 run. Jaxson Wiggins and Judd Wilkes each scored 1 run as well.

In the second game against Flint River, DEA was once again defeated 3-1. Richard Braddy pitched 4 innings and recorded 4 strikeouts. Clayton Hood pitched for 2 innings and completed 2 strikeouts, and went 1 for 1 at the plate with a double. Sailor Powell went 1 for 2 at the plate, and Brody Fleming went 3-3 and scored 1 run. Even though this loss meant the end for the Eagle’s season, it was a good year! Congratulations Eagles!
