Spring sports at David Emanuel Academy are underway, and the Eagles baseball team is starting off strong with an overall record of 3-3 against some tough competition. The Eagles’ first game was against Bible Baptist on February 27th. This game was neck and neck, going into 8 innings, with DEA falling 6-4. In this matchup, Tucker Free went 1 for 3 and scored 1 run, Richard Braddy had a walk, scored once, and pitched, recording 1 strikeout. Sailor Powell walked, scored 1 run, and pitched, recording 2 strikeouts. Cavan Calhoun walked twice, scored once and pitched for 3 innings striking out 4 batters. Riley Griner pitched for 2 innings and had 2 strikeouts, and Layton Terwilliger pitched 1 inning and recorded 2 strikeouts.
On February 28th, the David Emanuel Academy Eagles baseball team battled the Fullington Academy Trojans, winning 6-0. Cavan Calhoun went 1 for 3 with a double and scored a run. Clayton Hood hit 2 doubles, stole 1 base, and scored 3 runs while also pitching 3 innings and striking out 6 batters. Brody Flemming went 3 for 3 at the plate and scored 2 runs while pitching for 3 innings and earning 6 strikeouts. Sailor Powell went 1 for 1 with a double, and Riley Griner also had a double.
The Eagles traveled to Savannah to take on the Habersham Patriots on March 2nd. DEA won big with a score of 18-2. Cavan Calhoun went 1-4 at the plate, scored 1 run, and pitched 3 innings, striking out 5 batters. Clayton Hood went 3-4 with a double and scored 1 run. Brody Fleming went 2-4, hitting a double and a homerun. Riley Griner went 2-4 at the plate and scored twice. Jaxson Wiggins went 2-2 and walked twice, scoring 4 runs. Judd Wilkes walked 3 times and scored 3 times. Jay Carter went 1 for 2, walked once, and scored twice. Peyton Templeton walked once and scored once while pitching for 1 inning and getting 1 strikeout. Nolan Powell also pitched for 1 inning, and he recorded 3 strikeouts. Sailor Powell went 1 for 2 and scored once, and Cooper Riner and Bryan Beasley also scored 1 run apiece.
The next day, the DEA baseball team traveled to Macon to play the Covenant Rams. This game was very close and even went into 8 innings, but the Eagles did not leave victorious, losing 3-2. Clayton Hood went 1-4 at the plate with a double and pitched for 3 innings getting 4 strikeouts. Jaxson Wiggins went 1-4, and Cooper Riner went 1-1. Judd Wilkes scored once and stole 2 bases, and Tucker Free also scored once. Brody Fleming pitched 4 innings and struck out 6 batters, and Riley Griner also pitched and had 1 strikeout.
On March 6th, the Eagles traveled to St. Andrews in Savannah and lost 16-1. Cavan Calhoun went 1 for 2 at the plate and scored 1 run. Brody Fleming went 1 for 2 and had a double. Jaxson Wiggins went 1 for 1, and Judd Wilkes went 1 for 1 with a double. Riley Griner recorded 3 strikeouts and Jay Carter had 1 strikeout.
Even though the Eagles had a hard loss against St. Andrews on their field, they were able to beat them at home in Stillmore on March 9th with a score of 8-6. In this game, Cavan Calhoun walked once and scored 2 runs while also pitching for 3 innings and earning 6 strikeouts. Clayton Hood went 1 for 2 at the plate with a double. He also walked twice and scored 3 runs while pitching for 3 innings and striking out 3 batters. Brody Fleming went 3 for 3 with 2 doubles and scored 1 run while pitching for 1 inning and recording 3 strikeouts. Jaxson Wiggins went 2-3 with a double and walked once. Jay Carter and Layton Terwilliger both went 1 for 2 at the plate. Ethan Fields scored twice and walked twice. He also had 1 sacrifice bunt, and Tucker Free had 1 sacrifice bunt as well.
