DDA announces upcoming Christmas events

The Downtown Development Authority of Swainsboro is excited to host a Holiday Drive-In Movie on Thursday, December 3, in Downtown Swainsboro. The double feature will include the classic Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, as well as Anna, Elsa, and the Frozen crew in Olaf’s Frozen Adventure.

The event will be held at the Emanuel County Commissioners’ new parking lot at 119 East Main Street (former location of Schwabe Motor Co.). It is free to attend, but spaces must be reserved online in advance by visiting swainsboroholidaydrivein.eventbrite.com.

In addition to the movies, “drive-thru” visits with Santa will be offered. Youngsters will have the opportunity to interact with Santa and are encouraged to bring a letter for “the Big Guy” to read when he returns to the North Pole.

Swainsboro Kiwanis Club will provide free popcorn for attendees. No other concessions will be available; however, the DDA encourages those attending to take the opportunity to support local restaurants by picking up a “to-go” order to enjoy during the movie.

While this event may bring back memories for those who recall visiting the Highway 56 Drive-In, it will also provide an opportunity to get the family in the Holiday spirit while social distancing. The DDA asks that everyone attending please remain in their vehicles for the duration of the event, including during the visits with Santa.
