Daughtry speaks to the Wiregrass Chapter

The Wiregrass Chapter, Georgia Society Sons of the American Revolution held its monthly meeting, Thursday night, June 9, at the New China Restaurant at 6:30 p.m. With President Wilder Smith, Jr. presiding, there were 15 in attendance with 4 guests. After an opening prayer, an outstanding buffet meal was enjoyed by all. President Wilder then led the pledge to the U.S. Flag and the SAR pledge. He then held a discussion on the upcoming 132nd annual Sons of the American Revolution Congress being held in Savannah, July 9 through July 15. On Wednesday night, July 13th, their very own Wiregrass Chapter Compatriot John Derden, will be the main Speaker at the President General's Banquet held at the Hyatt Regency. Compatriot Steve Burke then gave a report on the many activities that the Chapter has been involved with since their May meeting. President Wilder then asked Compatriot Dess to introduce their speaker for the evening, Compatriot Hu Daughtry. Hu is a member of the Mill Creek Chapter in Statesboro and he and his wife Susan, live in Metter. Hu's presentation was on his GGGGG-Grandfather, Revolutionary War Patriot Ephraim Liles. Ephraim was a True American Patriot who enlisted in a South Carolina Militia Unit at the age of sixteen. His tour of duty lasted more than three years. He was primarily a scout for several Generals and experienced combat at such battles as: Fishing Creek, Fish Dam Ford, Blackstock's Farm and Fort Granby. While marching from Fishing Creek to Fish Dam Ford, he was wounded in the leg by South Carolina Tories. He died in Twiggs County in 1854. He was in his 93rd year. At the time of his death, he was a deserving recipient of a Revolutionary War Pension.
