Cleaning gravestones demonstration

Posted

Anyone interested in learning the proper way to clean a gravestone is invited to a demonstration at Oak Chapel Cemetery on Saturday, March 18, at 10 a.m. Lillian Wingate, Regional Genealogy and Local History Coordinator, will be doing the DO’s and DON’Ts of gravestone cleaning. She will demonstrate what is safe to use to keep from damaging the stone. Some gravestones can be cleaned by using water and a soft scrub brush. Lillian welcomes anyone who would like to participate in the cleaning of stones, so go on out to 28 Oak Grove Chapel Road near Kite, take your lawn chair, and learn something new. You are asked to wear closed toe shoes and long pants.

For more information about this and other Genealogy classes coming up, call Franklin Memorial Library at 478.237.7791 or check out their Facebook page. You may also contact Lillian Wingate at lillinw@strl.com.
