Clayton Wayne Waters, 64


Mr. Clayton Wayne Waters, 64, of Garfield, passed away Tuesday, March 21, 2023, at his residence following an extended illness. Funeral services were held Thursday, March 23, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Chapman Funeral Home with Reverend Ernest L. Johnson officiating assisted by Reverend Roy Jarriel. Interment followed in Old Canoochee Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family received friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 22, at Chapman Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Tim Clements, Ryan Clements, Johnny Rowe, Michael Collins, Steven Gay, David Dimmock, Lamar Archer and Ray Johnson.

Mr. Waters was born August 24, 1958, in Swainsboro, to the late William Clayton Waters and Lorene Johnson Waters. He worked at IGA in Twin City for many years. Mr. Waters was a member of Twin City Church of God. He enjoyed riding dirt roads while listening to music, fishing, cooking and loved his family. Mr. Waters is preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Loree Lanier and Peggy Collins; nephews, Jameson Fulmer, Timothy Blake Lee, and Radyn Vonn Collins; and half-brother, William R. Waters.

Survivors include his wife, Kathy Waters Atkinson of Garfield; sisters, Patricia Waters of Twin City, Brenda (John) Godbee of Metter; step-daughters, Maria Brown of Windsor, SC and April McCormick of Millen; brother-in-law, Ernest (June) Johnson; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many friends.

In lieu of flowers, family request memorials be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 61 Forsyth Street, SW, Atlanta, GA 30303.

Chapman Funeral Home of Swainsboro was in charge of arrangements.
