Posted

A special called meeting was held for Swainsboro City Council and Mayor Greg Bennett on Wednesday, January 19, at 5 p.m. at Swainsboro City Hall. Mayor Bennett called the meeting to order and Reverend Cooper gave the invocation.

Council then reviewed minutes from the January 3, 2022 meeting. Councilman Johnny Stafford made first motion for approval but the motion died due to lack of a second. Councilman John E. Parker requested the minutes be amended to reflect information that Fire Chief and Mrs. Overstreet mentioned during the last meeting.

In reference to old business:

Council recalled a motion from the January 3 meeting regarding renewing the Queensborough loan and made a new motion to pay the Queensborough loan in full. Making first motion was Councilman D.J. Davis. Councilman Julian Sconyers seconded and all remaining council voted accordingly.

Councilman Sconyers made motion to authorize Mayor Bennett to enter into a new loan for up to $400,000 at the best terms available to the city.

Donald Jenkins, Shon Corley and Rita Faulkner addressed council on concerns regarding the gym project.

Councilman Davis motioned to enter into executive session to discuss personnel issues and attorney-client privileged information. Seconding this motion was Stafford. The vote passed with a 4-2 vote, with Bobbie Collins and Parker opposing. Upon re-entering normal session, no action was taken by council. Davis then motioned to adjourn, Sconyers seconded and all remaining council voted accordingly.
