Citizens Bank contributes to EMC Georgia HEART

Earlier this month, Citizens Bank of Swainsboro President and CEO Milton B. Gray, Jr. presented a check for $35,000 to Emanuel Medical Center (EMC). Citizens Bank has been a regular contributor to EMC through the Georgia HEART rural hospital tax program, which allows businesses and individuals to contribute to a qualifying rural hospital organization in Georgia for a 100% Georgia income tax credit.

“Rural hospitals are closing all around the state because of a lack of funding and a lack of support,” Gray said. “We are fortunate that Emanuel Medical Center qualifies for Georgia HEART funds. I encourage everyone to talk with their tax advisor to identify the amount of state taxes that you are paying annually, both personal and business. You can designate the tax dollars that you are paying to the state to come back to support Emanuel Medical Center.”

These vital funds allow the hospital to upgrade equipment, maintain and improve areas inside the facility and work on beautification projects. Recently examples are on display at the nursing home, featuring new flooring, interior and exterior paint and the new signage outside.

“The GA Heart Program has allowed EMC to continue to focus on providing high quality healthcare to our community including new screening colonoscopy equipment. Through early detection of pre-cancerous cells, we can significantly decrease the rate of colon cancer in our community” stated Emanuel Medical Center CEO Damien Scott.

“You are going to pay taxes to the state of Georgia. You might as well designate it to come to our local hospital and support it,” Gray added. “It is not a tax deduction; it is a true dollar for dollar tax credit. Those can be significant amounts of money.”

“Thank you in advance for your participation in the HEART tax credit program, which is vital to our hospital, and is furthering our ability to offer quality healthcare to members of our community. We are grateful to you and appreciate your continued support!” said Carmen Tanner, Director of Marketing.

Anyone can be a donor and your tax dollars can play an important role in providing quality local health care for current and future generations. For more information to become a donor, contact Carmen Tanner, Director of Marketing at EMC, 478-289-1100.
