Mrs. Christine Moore Quarterman, age 83, passed away Friday, April 21, 2023. A Celebration of Life and Legacy was held Saturday, April 29, at 11 a.m. at Greater St. James Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Bennie Brinson officiating and Rev. Dr. Elgin N. Dixon presiding. Interment followed in Swainsboro City Cemetery.
Christine was born June 20, 1939, the eldest child born to the late Deacon Thomas Handy and Deaconess Claudie Mae Johnson Moore. She was 1958 Homecoming Queen, Class Valedictorian, and Captain of the 1958 Emanuel County High School State Basketball team, Mrs. Greater St. James Golden Girl 2017, former president of the Mass Choir for more than 20 years, member of the Neal Dixon Ensemble and Women’s Choir. Christine met and married her high school sweetheart, Deacon Moses Curven Quarterman after his military career. To this union, they had five children: William, Wanda Faye, Gregory Leon, Kenneth Lamar and Christopher Curven. Mrs. Quarterman is preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Bonnie Ruth; brothers, Thomas Jr, Lee Edward, Nathaniel “Skip” and Eugene; children, William, Wanda Faye and Kenneth Lamar.
Mrs. Quarterman leaves a legacy of memories with her sons, Gregory Leon Quarterman and Christopher Curven (Regina) Quarterman, both of Swainsboro; bonus daughter, Audrey Scott of Swainsboro; and a host of other relatives and friends.
