Graveside services for Charles J. “Baby Jean” Lewis Sr., 72, were held Thursday, October 15, 2020 at 11 a.m. at Pineola Church of God Cemetery in Wadley with Pastor Harry Lloyd officiating. He passed away October 11.

Mr. Charles J. Lewis Sr. was the eighth child born to the late Sylvester Lewis Sr. and Lucille Hadden Lewis. He was born October 23, 1947. Lewis was born and reared in Jefferson County. He was educated in the Jefferson County School system. After high school graduation, he continued his education and earned his welding certification. Lewis was later employed by Norfolk Southern Railroad and retired as a rail gang supervisor. At an early age, he joined Pineola Church of God in Wadley. Lewis was preceded in death by his mother and father; sisters, Louise Lewis-Amerson, Corine Lewis, and Betty Lewis-Chase; and a brother, Sylvester Lewis Jr.

Survivors include his daughter, LaShelle Lewis of Dallas; son, Charles J. (Miesha Lynn) Lewis Jr. of Douglasville; two sisters, Letha Lewis (Eddie) Burley of Swainsboro and Mary Lewis-Wesby of Brooklyn, New York; one brother, Willie B. (Annie) Lewis of Wadley; goddaughter, Rev. Sandra Elam; devoted caregiver and goddaughter, Melinda Carr; godson, Farris M. Hudson III; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

Pallbearers were Sylvester Lewis III, Michael Amerson Matthew Hudson, Alvin Amerson, Bruce Young, and Riney Amerson.

Mosley’s Funeral Home of Swainsboro was in charge of arrangements.
