Bulldogs overwhelm Claxton 63-13

The ECI Bulldogs, playing their second home game of the week, defeated Claxton Friday evening on homecoming week to improve their season record to 6-2. The offense posted 4 touchdowns in the first quarter with the defense adding 7 more with a strip for a touchdown to lead 35-0 in the first. They added 21 more in the second quarter to lead the Tigers 56-7 at halftime. Claxton’s only score of the first half came after a busted pass coverage got them deep in Bulldog territory after a 55-yard pass. When asked about the two-game week, coach Kearson commented, “Super proud of our players and coaches for being able to keep it together for two games this week and not only that we had to navigate homecoming week as well. It was a good week!!”

Tyler Foreman got the first two touchdowns for the Bulldogs in the game. The first came on a two-yard run and the second on a 51-yard run on the first play of a drive. The Bulldog defense also put points on the board in the quarter. Vintavius Hughes stripped the ball from the Claxton quarterback, taking it home for a 33-yard defensive touchdown. The passing game got in the act on the Bulldogs’ next two possessions. After a Jackson Kennedy to Foreman 22-yard pass to the Claxton 31, Kennedy went to the air again to Chase Johnson for a 31 touchdown.

The Bulldogs closed out the first quarter scoring with another passing touchdown. Kennedy hit Daon Bethea on the visitors’ sidelines for a 67-yard touchdown pass to put the Bulldogs up 35-0. The Bulldogs used Ab Marsh to score in three plays on their first drive in the second quarter. Marsh picked up 12 on a running play, another 40 on a pass from Kennedy and found the endzone on the third play on a 5-yard run to add to the Bulldog lead 42-7. The Bulldogs put two more touchdowns on the Claxton defense in the second quarter. Chase Johnson scooted for a 20 touchdown and Davis Johnson hit James Parker for a 57-yard touchdown pass to close out the first half for a 56-7 lead. With a running clock and the starters taking a rest on the sideline, the JV got the last points for the Bulldogs on the opening drive of the third quarter. LJ Tarver smoked the middle of the Tiger defense for a 25-yard touchdown run to put the Bulldogs up 63-7.

The Tigers scored their second touchdown of the game in the third quarter on a 74-yard run. The Bulldogs had 514 yards of offense against the Bluejackets from Savannah, 278 yards on the ground with record setting passing night. The two quarterbacks were perfect on the night going 7-7 for 236 yards and 3 touchdowns. Tyler Foreman, 87 yards and two touchdowns and LJ Tarver, 87 yards with a touchdown led the pack of Dawgs on the ground. Chase Johnson rushed 3 times for 42 yards and Ab Marsh carried the ball 3 times for 31 yards. Jackson Kennedy was 6-6 pass for 179 yards and two touchdowns. Davis Johnson threw one pass for 57 yards for a touchdown. Chase Johnson led the 5 receivers with 2 catches for 46 yards with 2 touchdowns. Also catching touchdowns passes were Daon Bethea with a 67-yard touchdown, and James Parker caught a 57 yarder for a touchdown.

With 2 games remaining, the region 3 playoff seedings are still up in the air. The Bulldogs have an important region match-up in Sylvania Friday against Screven Co.
