The ECI baseball team completed their second 3-game sweep of a region opponent last week to improve their season record to 13-5, 6-0 in region. The Bulldogs put Jenkins Co. in a 0-3 region hole defeating the Eagles 12-6 on Tuesday in Millen and the double header on Friday taking both games 10-0 and 6-3 at Joe Harvey Field. The ECI bats were screaming during the series with 27 hits and 29 runs, while the defense played error free ball during the 3-game set. The Bulldogs pitchers gave up just 9 runs on 15 hits while striking out 31 Eagles. In Tuesday’s opener in Millen, the Bulldogs made the most of their 11 hits, defeating Jenkins Co. 12-6. Bryce Kearson toed the rubber for the Bulldogs and struck out 10 of the 16 batters he faced. The only mar on the day was a 2 out single in the fifth to break-up the no-hitter. Kearson also got the scoring started in the third with a 2-run shot high over the center field fence. Along with the HR, the Bulldogs hit 4 singles in the inning by Aden McQuaig, Gabe Lee, Mercer and Hudson Henry to put the Eagles in the hole 4-0. The Bulldogs ended the game in the bottom of the fifth scoring 6 runs to defeat the Eagles 10-0. Gabe Lee and Henry ended the game with 2 hits each with 5 other Bulldogs getting one hit. Friday’s nightcap game had the Bulldogs finishing the sweep of the Eagles by a score of 6-3. The Eagles finally had something to cheer about last week leading the Bulldogs in the second game 2-0 in the top of the third inning. It turned into groans after the inning was over when the Bulldogs put 6 runs on the board to lead 6-2. Aden McQuaig led off the inning at first after getting hit by pitch. Kearson doubled McQuaig to third one batter later. Gabe Lee plated the Bulldog’s first run with a single. Boddiford kept the inning going and tied the game 2-2 with a single. Jacob Durden cleared the bases full of Bulldogs hitting a 1-1 pitch over the fence in centerfield for a 6-2 ECI lead. The Eagles tacked on a run in the seventh but was not enough as the Bulldogs improve to a 6-0 region record. Andrew Chalkley started for the Bulldogs pitching 4-1/3 innngs, giving up 5 hits while striking out 6 batters. Jacob Durden relieved his second game of the week, giving up one hit, striking out 5 in his 2 2/3 innings of work. Gabe Lee with 3 hits and Tuff Boddiford 2 hits, led the Bulldogs at the plate. Durden led the Bulldogs in RBI with 4 with his HR. The Bulldogs don’t have any region games on the schedule this week. They do have a couple of non-region contests. They hosted Toombs Co. at Joe Harvey and will travel to Savannah on Thursday to meet an old region foe, the Savannah Country Day Hornets. Results of both games will be in next week’s edition of The Forest Blade. Their next 3-game region set will be with Portal on Monday, April 3, at home and a double header in Portal on Tuesday, April 4. The Panthers are currently in second place in region with a 4-2 record.
