The Kiwanis Club of Swainsboro held its weekly meeting Tuesday, July 21, at New China Restaurant at 7 p.m. with President Petite Garrett presiding.

Twenty-two members and five guests—Georgia District Governor Andy Pipkin, Lt. Governor Dan Bennett, Lindsay Bennett, Jeffrey Brewer, and Connie Brewer—attended.

The program for the evening was hosted by Pepper Fields, who introduced Jeffrey Brewer, a candidate for Emanuel County sheriff in the November 3 election.

Brewer started his career in emergency medical services as a paramedic. He then worked for the Georgia State Patrol for 30+ years before joining the Emanuel County Sheriff's Office in 2014.

Brewer explained some of the things a sheriff does and some improvements he plans to make if elected in November. He also explained how gangs are one of the biggest problems in Emanuel County and how he plans to increase the number of investigators working on gang-related crimes. In closing, Brewer stated he also wants to increase the number of school resource officers and increase the number of officers undergoing active shooter training.

Georgia Kiwanis Governor Andy Pipkin inducted two new members into the Swainsboro Kiwanis Club, Tracy Mason and Monica Wren. He presented them with their Kiwanis pins and membership certificates after explaining the objectives of Kiwanis and what Kiwanis does for the children of the world.
