Board of Education recognizes school youth for superb performances at recent meeting

The Emanuel County Board of Education convened Tuesday, February 8, at 5:30 p.m. at the ECI School Auditorium with board members John Allen Bailey, Del Brown, Phyllis Dixon, Chairman Mason Henry, Tanya Lane, Johnny Parker and Sandra Swinney in attendance. Chairman Henry opened the night session by welcoming all prior to delivering the invocation. The pledge of allegiance was led by board member Parker. Members then reviewed and approved the meeting agenda.

In reference to Superintendent Comments…

Student recognition was presented by Dr. Denise Warnock, assistant superintendent for Emanuel County Schools district. Student groups receiving recognition are as follows:

The 40 students and 9 sponsors TCE Junior Beta representatives and the 11 ECI Jr. Beta Club members will compete at national level in Nashville, Tennessee summer 2022.

Discussion of the Consent Agenda was as follows:

•Minutes were presented for the review of board members for the January 18, 2022 regular board meeting and the January 27, 2022 called board meeting.

•Financial reports were presented by Molly Smith.

•Fundraisers submitted by Emanuel County Schools for review of the board.

•A dissolve regulation GBA-R(1): Professional Personnel Compensation Guides and Contracts. This regulation was presented to board members to be dissolved for better practices.

•Approval of Lawn Care/Shrubbery Contract FY 2022/2023 with lowest bidder, Priority Lawncare. Prices submitted for the bid included $2,700 per cut lawn and $1,800 for shrubs per lawn.

All items on the consent agenda were approved as presented.

Board members then entered executive session. Upon re-entering normal session, the following took place:

•Board members approved the renewals of principals/directors – Brandon Andrews, Stacey Barber, Terri Burke (49%), Maria Daniels, Anetria Edenfield, Gail Greenway, Ronald Hirst, Chandra Hooks, Stefanie Mason, Susan Rutherford, Mollie Smith, Jansen Ware, Denise Warnock, Robert Warnock and Valorie Watkins.

•The board approved the employment of classified employees, Cassandra Allen and Haylie Dawkins, paraprofessionals.

•Board members approved the resignation of certified employees, Adele Bauman, Cheryl Canady, Carrie Dauphin, Erreka Pugh, Janet Walker and Walraven Braswell, teachers.

•The board approved the resignation of classified employees, Kathryn Boula and Amanda Reynolds, paraprofessionals.

•Board members approved the retirement of certified employees, Patty Collins, Shai English and Misty Stovall, teachers; and Dr. Willie Gibson, SMS principal.

•The board approved the retirement of classified employees, Ivonia Beasley, SFS; Patti Hendley, clerical; and Gwendolyn Bowers and Donna Lane, paraprofessionals.
