Board of Education meets for month of November

The Emanuel County Board of Education convened Tuesday, November 16, at 5:30 p.m. at the Swainsboro High School cafeteria for their regularly scheduled monthly meeting. Chairman Mason Henry welcomed everyone and delivered the invocation and was followed by Johnny Parker leading the Pledge of Allegiance. The amended agenda was approved as presented.

Discussion of consent agenda was as follows:

• Minutes of the October 19, 2021 Regular Board Meeting

• Financial Reports

• Fundraisers

• Approval of ESPLOST Schedule Advertised

• ESPLOST Resolution Declaring Election Results & Certificate of Board of Elections

• Approve Gray, Pannell & Woodward, LLP as Bond Validation Agents

In reference to superintendent comments

Dr. Denise Warnock recognized Swainsboro Elementary and Principal Valorie Watkins for receiving the Georgia Shape Grant.

Dr. Denise Warnock recognized ECI middle for receiving the US News Best Schools Award. This award went to schools that placed within the top 30 percent in the state of Georgia.

Dr. Denise Warnock recognized Stefanie Mason for receiving a GaDOE Computer Science Teacher Capacity grant. Emanuel County was one of seventeen in the state to receive this grant.

Jansen Ware gave an update on Swainsboro Middle School renovations.

Superintendent Scotty Hattaway recognized the October winners of the following: F.A.M.I.L.Y. (Forget About Me – I Love You!) goes to Ms. Tiffany Strickland, Special Education Teacher at Swainsboro High School; the S.A.S. (Service Above Self) award goes to Trena Houston, a Special Education Paraprofessional at Swainsboro Elementary School; and the P.A.U.S.E. (Pupil Acknowledgement Using SAS/FAMILY Examples) goes to Jonorian Foots, a Junior at Swainsboro High School. Awards were presented to awardees on Thursday, November 18.

Board members unanimously approved the consent agenda as presented.

Executive session

The Board approved the employment of certified employees, Heidi Dowell and Erreka Pugh, teachers.

The Board approved the employment classified employees Connie Bush, Paraprofessional; Julie Rodas, SFS Substitute and Amy Sause, custodian.

The Board approved the resignation of classified employees, Robbie Dudley, custodian; Naomi Hall, paraprofessional; Lucious Williams and Melinda O’Quinn, SFS.

The Board approved the transfer of classified employees, Melissa Fleming, payroll specialist; Leon Gilmore, custodian supervisor; Shannon Smith, bookkeeper; and Princess Middleton, data clerk.

The Board approved the retirement of certified employee Donald Avery, teacher.
