Mrs. Bernice JoAnne Walker, 81, of Swainsboro, passed away Thursday, September 30, 2021, at Emanuel Medical Center following a brief illness. Graveside service was held Sunday, October 3, at 10 a.m. at Forest Lawn Cemetery with Reverend Joe Bedgood officiating. The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, October 2, at Chapman Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Chase Woods, Bailey Woods, Jimmy Peebles, Johnny Peebles, Irvin Cox, and Hayward Johnson.

Mrs. Walker was born April 26, 1940, in Swainsboro, to the late John Raymond Cox and Eddie Henry Cox. She worked at Creston for over 20 years, and retired from Savannah Luggage in 2000. Bernice loved going for walks at Harmon Park, watching her favorite tv shows – Big Brother and Survivor - and spending time with family. Mrs. Walker is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bobby Gene Walker; son, Bobby Jason Walker; and brothers, Wiley Cox, Colon Cox, and Ervin Cox.

Survivors include her sons, Danny Woods (Sharon) of Byron, Lonzie Woods of Swainsboro, and Ben Woods (Denise) of Perry; sisters, Mary Peebles of Dellwood, Bonnie Faye Hutcheson of Swainsboro, and Margie Lumpkin of Adrian; grandchildren, JoBeth Johnson (Hayward) of Millen, Chase Woods (Ellie) and Bailey Woods, all of Perry; several nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Chapman Funeral Home of Swainsboro was in charge of arrangements.
