Back-to-back archery competitions for Emanuel County 4-H

Emanuel County 4-H’ers had a busy weekend of Archery competitions. The team took aim at the Georgia 4-H State Indoor Archery Championship held January 21, at the Georgia National Fairgrounds in Perry. Thirty-one Emanuel County 4-H Archery team members competed in four divisions: Cloverleaf Compound for 4th-6th graders, Junior Compound for 7th-8th graders, Senior Compound for 9th-12th graders, and Cloverleaf Novice which is limited to recurve or universal draw length compound bows that do not have a positive draw stop or let-off. Several local youth placed well in the competition of over 500 4-H archers!

In the Junior Male Compound Division, Jackson Smith placed 10th and Paxton Dixon placed 14th out of 89 archers. In the Senior Female Compound Division, Greenlee Johnson placed 11th out of 56 archers. In the Senior Male Compound Division, Thai Thompson placed 11th of 72 shooters.

The Archery Team also held its annual county match Sunday, January 8 at the Emanuel County Livestock Barn. Winners in each division were:

Cloverleaf Male Novice: 1st- Remington Kirkland, 2nd Kayden Sutherland, 3rd Levi Bishop

Cloverleaf Female Novice: 1st Abi Torpy, 2nd Addi Rae Robertson, 3rd Adalee Bell

Cloverleaf Male Compound: 1st Joshua Walker, 2nd Sam Lawrence, 3rd Bowen Ware

Cloverleaf Female Compound: 1st Sadie Holden, 2nd Abby Rachels

Junior Male Compound: 1st Paxton Dixon, 2nd Jackson Smith, 3rd Ethan Mason

Junior Female Compound: 1st Lizzie Bowman

Senior Male Compound: 1st Thai Thompson, 2nd Jack Williams, 3rd Cooper Riner

Senior Female Compound: 1st Greenlee Johnson, 2nd Terralynn Brinson, 3rd Lauren Sapp

Other archery team members competing this season were Adalyn Akridge, Levi Bishop, Noah Brantley, Briggston Buston, Brayden Coleman, Adrienne Garrett, Nathaniel Harry, Spencer Lawrence, Tal Love, Maddox Robertson, Kaylee Screws, Tate Torpy, Hudson Ware, and Sam Williams.

The Archery Program is a part of the Georgia 4-H Shooting Awareness, Fun and Education Program (S.A.F.E.). The teams were coached by 4-H Volunteers Brad and T’Neil Williams, Chesley Dixon, Steven Johnson, Cliff Mason, Ashley Henry, and Dustin Brantley.
