A Family That Prays Together, Stays Together

Posted

I once talked with a couple who shared with me that they had been praying together at home, which I was excited to hear. Except unfortunately for them, it created somewhat of an interesting situation. It seemed that at some point during the prayer, the wife was asking God to forgive them for taking all their blessings for granted and not appreciating everything that God was doing for them. When the wife opened her eyes, to her surprise the husband was pointing at her as if to be telling God “Her God, not me.” “You know I appreciate all my blessings.” Well as you can imagine, the wife got quite upset at the husband saying, “I can't believe you would call me out like that”. I can see this happening and it paints a bold, yet humorous picture. But in reality we do that alot. It's easy to call out other people for their sins, when we have a share of our own sins. I've heard that it's easier to pick out problems with other people, when we deal with it ourselves. The bible says in Matt 7 to remove the plank from our own eye and we can see clearly to remove the speck from our brothers eye (or in this case, our spouse eye).
Sad to report that most families do not pray together anymore. Most men in fact confess that they have never actually led a prayer out loud over their family at home. If this describes your prayer life I want to encourage you today to take the first step tonight and grab your spouse by the hand and begin to pray. First ask God to help remove the plank from your eye.
If you have never accepted Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior, I want to encourage you to do that right now, before it's too late. John 14:6
