At the January 19th Collaborative meeting a $20,000 AETNA/CVS grant was awarded to Emanuel County Family Connection. Ms. Shakela Williams of Aetna/CVS Health presented the check that will go toward food disparity in the community. Tamra Allen, the Family Connection Coordinator, will oversee the grant that will be used for food distribution events and nutrition programs in Emanuel County.One of the first events was a free farmers market offered at the Senior Citizen's Center on February 16th. Fresh produce was supplied by Pete Jackson Farms and volunteers from the Family Connection Collaborative assisted the seniors who received collard greens, carrots, sweet potatoes, tomatoes, and onions.
