Mt. Gilead Missionary Baptist Church will celebrate its 126th anniversary Sept. 9 at 7:30 p.m. and Sept. 11 at 11:30 a.m. Schedule of churches is as follows:

Friday: Union Chapel, Durden Grove, Rountree Grove, Ohoopee Grove; Rev. S.D. Bing.

Sunday: Greater St. James, Mt. Zion AME, Rountree Chapel, McCloud Covenant. Others on the program are Thomas Byrd, Gloria Wright, Gail Fann, Rufus Jackson, C.T. Walker and Rev. Bennie Brinson.

We congratulate Emanuel Medical Center’s Recovery Center for receiving funding through March 2006.

A few months ago, after The Forest-Blade ran several articles regarding the plight of the center’s discontinued funding, many local residents have expressed their support. On Monday, Aug. 22, Emanuel Medical Center CEO Bob Via announced that funding has been continued and the facility will now be an Emergency Receiving Center.

Sierra Henry celebrates birthday at party

Sierra Marie Henry, daughter of Mitchell Henry and Brenda Henry, both of Swainsboro, celebrated her birthday Aug. 5 at her home with a sleepover party. She was 8 years old Aug. 6.

The theme for the party was Georgia Bulldogs. Guests were served pizza and “Bulldog” cake, ice cream and a large chocolate chip cookie that her mother made and decorated.

ECI band receives donation

Emanuel County Institute Band is the recipient of a generous gift from a local donor. Mrs. Elease Gray, evangelist in Twin City, bought 10 trumpets, five alto saxophones, one flute and a Sony stereo for the band room at Emanuel County Institute, according to James McBride, ECI Band director.
