The Swainsboro Rotary Club held its weekly meeting March 9 at Catered creations during the lunch hour.

Visitors for this meeting were Trey Allen, candidate for the District 21 senate seat from Columbia County James Allen, and G. W. Johnson, president of Durden Banking Co.

Prior to the speaker’s introduction, the club discussed the Pine Tree Festival Pageant, which Rotary sponsors every year. The winner of the Miss Division (age 17-22) will receive a $500 scholarship. New for the 2020 season is the Miss and Teen Miss Pageants, which will be preliminaries to the Miss Georgia Forestry Pageant to be held in Tifton in July. This has been posted on Rotary’s Facebook page. Click on Events for a schedule. Interested persons can also go to www. pinetreefestival.org and click on the Events tab to obtain an application and see the list of the age groups for the pageants. There is an online registration for all divisions, and questions should be directed to 478-237-6426.

Jim Williams introduced the speaker, Rodney Vining, president of American Door and Drawer located in Swainsboro. Vining gave the club some history on the company and discussed the technology used in making the doors.

The next meeting will be held March 16, 2020 at Catered Creations.
