Glad gardeners attend member celebration

Glad Garden Club was thrilled to be one of five garden clubs participating in the Oleander District Member Celebration held February 27 at Ogeechee Technical College in Statesboro. The event was chaired by Oleander District Director Diana Malone and co-chaired by Lisa Hall to celebrate all the hard work members have done throughout the year to promote garden club mission and vision.

After registration, members were greeted with a bounty of breakfast delights, homemade by designated hostesses, and beautiful music played on a grand piano by Greg Beck.

After a presentation of “plant personalities” by Timothy Hall and a hilarious rendition of stories from a southern lady by Bess Hartley, guests were treated to a box lunch and an opportunity to shop with vendors.

Swainsboro was well represented with vendors representing The Georges Flower Shop and Yard Master. An array of plants, jewelry, handmade bowls, and other goodies all made for a delightful shopping experience.

After all the shopping, members were in for a real treat as a final presentation was made by Joe Washington of HGTV fame as the original host of Ground Breakers, the longest running landscape show on HGTV.

As a veteran TV and movie celebrity, people may remember him most in the Atlanta area as the evening sports caster on NBC affiliate WXIA-TV in Atlanta. His current interests include landscape work and cooking. His informative talk regarded “adapt and garden smart,” including an adaptive gardening resource handout.

The Glad Garden Club is a member of the National Garden Clubs Inc., The Deep South Region, and The Oleander District of The Garden Club of Georgia Inc.
