Swainsboro High School held a bench dedication ceremony on the front lawn of the school for Hunter Caraway on Tuesday, March 10. Caraway, a member of the Class of 2020, lost his life on November 16, 2019 due to a brief illness.

Hunter’s grandfather is Bennett Caraway. On Bennett’s birthday, Hunter’s family, classmates, the faculty of SHS, Emanuel County Schools’ central office staff, and community members gathered to remember a student who was full of life and personality.

Josie Drake memorialized Hunter with words written by Alexa Caraway, Hunter’s cousin, over the school’s loudspeaker so the assembled crowd outside as well as the remaining students and staff inside the building could hear the words. Isaiah Hall finished the ceremony with the playing of “Taps.”
