Durden-Hudson Funeral Directors announces the death of Mr. Walter Greenway, 95 of Swainsboro, on Saturday, November 24, 2019 at Community Hospice in Vidalia.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, November 26, 2019 at 2 p.m. in the Peebles-Curry Memorial Chapel with Rev. Ray Jenkins officiating.
Entombment followed at Eastbrook Mausoleum and Cemetery.
The family received friends at the funeral home two hours prior to the time of service.
Pallbearers were Ray Bargeron, Tim Bargeron, Lynward Hooks, Kelvin Turner, David Walker, and R. W. Hooks.
Honorary pallbearers were the members of the Lake Luck Civic Club.
Mr. Greenway was born March 23, 1924 in Twin City, Emanuel County to the late Thomas Frank and Hattie Joiner Greenway. In his younger years, he farmed. He was an insurance clerk and funeral director assistant at Durden-Hudson Funeral Directors for more than 30 years. He loved fishing and was an avid Braves fan. He was a member of Swainsboro First Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by five brothers, Edward Greenway, Troy Greenway, Fed Greenway, Rufus Greenway, Warren Greenway, and two sisters, Louise Bishop and Jeanette Bargeron.
Survivors include his wife of 76 years, Clairena B. Greenway of Swainsboro; daughter, Maxie Anne Keidel of Swainsboro; sisters, Marie Coglin of Twin City and Norma Hooks of Swainsboro; granddaughter, Terrie A. Walker (David) of Saint Marys; and great-grandchildren, Zan Leakway, Sloane Walker, Adrian Walker, Lauren Walker, and Ryan Walker.
Durden-Hudson Funeral Directors was in charge of arrangements.
