The Emanuel Arts Council and East Georgia State College will present Robert Harling’s Steel Magnolias on Saturday, December 7, at 7 p.m. and Sunday, December 8, at 3 p.m. Both performances will be in the Luck F. Gambrell Auditorium of EGSC.
Cast members are Pam Baggett as Clairee, Kay Farner as M’Lynn, Donna Haddock as Truvy, Dedra Shuman as Ouiser, Cole Smith as Shelby, and Dena Walden as Annelle.
Tickets are $10 each ($5 for students) and are available at the Swainsboro-Emanuel County Chamber of Commerce. Checks must be written to Emanuel Arts Council.
Beginning this week, The Forest-Blade will feature a cast member each week, beginning with Baggett:
“I am 57 years old and have lived in Garfield my whole life,” she says. She is the mother of three children—Dena Walden, Devin Coxwell, and Payton Riner; and grandmother of eight, Lola, Ella, Jorie, and Brin Walden; and Gauge, Joleigh, Micah, and Sarah Laine Coxwell. She is married to Jason Baggett.
“I have taught at Emanuel County Institute for 27 years,” says Pam. She started in special education and is now an alternative school teacher. “I absolutely love my job and ECI.”
Pam graduated from ECI in 1979. She is a member of Garfield Volunteer Fire Department, Garfield City Council, and has been on the Garfield Washpot Festival committee for 20 years. She is a member of El Bethel Baptist Church in Twin City. “I sing in the choir,” she says, “even though I can’t sing very well!”
Pam enjoys reading novels by Mary Kay Andrews, John Grisham, and Nicholas Sparks. She loves walking, riding her bike, cutting grass, watching hummingbirds, and her goats. “I enjoy gardening, making jams, jellies, and other garden goodies to share with my family and friends, and spending time with family, especially my grandbabies.”
