The Swainsboro softball team suffered a frustrating week, playing a gauntlet of talented foes and losing all 4 games as they search for offense. The Lady Tigers continued a fast and furious schedule, playing on 4 consecutive days and trying to right the ship after losing their last 6 games.
Swainsboro got off to a terrific start to the season at 6-2 and winning all 3 of their region games before adversity made its first appearance of the season. The Tigers have dropped all 4 region games since and 2 non region games, scoring 1 or fewer runs in all of those losses as their offense has been on hiatus.
Last week, Swainsboro lost a close battle on the road to New Hampstead, 2-1, before traveling to Hazlehurst to face a very good Jeff Davis team. The Tigers lost that contest 7-0. With no time to fret, Swainsboro came home to host Burke County on Wednesday and again couldn’t muster much offense, losing 9-1. Next up on Thursday, the Tigers hosted likely the region’s best team in Vidalia. The Indians took care of business in quick fashion, winning 13-1.
Swainsboro (6-8 overall, 3-4 in region) will see the schedule ease somewhat this week, hosting Metter on Tuesday and then traveling to Toombs County on Thursday. The Tigers beat Metter 7-4 in 9 innings in their previous matchup and took care of Toombs County as well, 7-3.
