Throughout the weekend, new and returning students at East Georgia State College will be moving into Bobcat Villas, the on-campus residence halls at the college. The students began moving in Thursday and will continue through Sunday. This gives them a chance to get settled in before classes begin on Monday, August 19.
This year, 433 students are moving into the four-person apartment-style residence halls. So far, 45 students are on the waiting list for room availability. Angela Storck, the director of housing, said that the waiting list number is around average compared to previous years.
The 433 students that are moving in were given a helping hand by EGSC volunteers. This year, 16 people volunteered to help get the students moved in. Beginning at 9 a.m. on Thursday, buggies were filled with clothes, shoes, cooking supplies and much more as they were rolled up the sidewalk and into the student’s new home for the semester.
“Move-in is an exciting time that we look forward to every year,” said Storck. “We always look forward to welcoming our returning and new students to East Georgia State College.”
The first residence hall, Bobcat Villas – South, was built in 2011. Not long after, in 2016, Bobcat Villas – West was built to provide even more space for students to live.
Each year, there is a theme for move-in weekend. This year’s theme is “Unlock Your Greatness.” At EGSC, we believe in the inherent potential in every one of the residential students. EGSC will strive to provide them the keys necessary to unlock their greatness and succeed at East Georgia State College.
This year, housing is doing something new for the residents. A new housing orientation is being held on Saturday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. During that time, there will be break-out sessions with important information for students. Some of the topics of discussion during the sessions is academic support, financial planning, sexual assault awareness and more. There will also be welcome week programs each night from Thursday until Sunday for all residents.
