At approximately 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 9, the National Weather Service in Peachtree City issued a severe weather advisory for eastern Emanuel County.
Within a few minutes, heavy rain, wind gusts, and thunder were observed. Around 4:45 p.m., there were several lightning strikes in the downtown area of Twin City.
The first call sent Twin City police to Highway 23 South (Fifth Avenue) and Gilliken Street for a tree that had been hit and was lying on the power lines. Due to fire involving the tree and wires, Highway 23 South was detoured around the hazard for more than one hour. County Engine 202 assisted at the scene.
Almost simultaneous, a call was received for multiple large tree limbs down on power lines in the 200 block of East Broad Street. Twin City Brush 20 responded to this call.
Georgia Power was notified and responded to both incidents and restored power to the affected areas.
