Smith presents program on national anthem

The Wiregrass and Brier Creek chapters of the Georgia Society Sons of the American Revolution met jointly for their July meetings.
The Brier Creek Chapter’s meeting, according to their normal schedule, would have had them meet on July 4, so they elected to meet a week later with the Wiregrass Chapter in Swainsboro. Both chapters held their meetings Thursday, July 11, at 6:30 p.m. at New China Restaurant in Swainsboro. With Wiregrass Chapter President Wilder Smith Jr. presiding, 15 members and two guests, East Fall Line Region Vice President Sonny Pittman and his wife, Sue, from Augusta, attended.
Brier Creek Chapter President Lee Smith was in charge of the program. He presented on the “Star-Spangled Banner.” The presentation included a 10-minute video that explained the Star-Spangled Banner. After the footage, President Smith delivered remarks.
Following the program, Wiregrass Chapter Vice President Steve Burke talked about his trip with President Smith to an Atlanta Braves baseball gave on July 4. The purpose of their trip was to be part of the GASSAR award-winning color guard and militia.
After that, Pittman discussed the new American Revolutionary War “Seige of Augusta” event being planned for June 2020 in Augusta. The plan is for this to become an annual event.
Pittman also discussed the upcoming Board of Management meeting in Barnesville. Scheduled for July 27, interim President Bill Tankersley and representatives from each chapter in the East Fall Line Region will present a request for charter for the new Little River Chapter in Thomson. This will make the eight SAR chapter in the region, making the East Fall Line Region the largest region in the GASSAR.
