The City of Swainsboro has imposed it’s juvenile curfew within the city limits effective immediately. This curfew makes it illegal for any male or female juvenile to be on or at a public street, other public places, as well as any commercial or non-commercial venue from the hours of 1 a.m. until 6 a.m. daily. This curfew remains in effect until further notice.

This curfew applies to any person under the age of 18. Violators of this ordinance will be subject to fines and punishment. Parents or guardians of violators will also be subject to fines and punishment for violations of those juveniles in their care. This measure is put into place to protect the safety and welfare of our community’s youth.

I think this wonderful . My moma always said nothing good ever happens after 12:00am at night. Young people need to be home by then.

As a concern citizen of Emanuel County. I can see the need for this juvenile curfew. However, after reading the announcement a few questions came to mind: Please clarify if this curfew applies to supervised juveniles? Does this require parents to report if their child(ren) left home without their consent? To what extent of punishment is the city addressing to families and family members ? Is there available literature for parents understanding? I don’t have children under the age of 18 but, I do have grandchildren and love ones that I would like to inform and encourage to be home at a decent time. Your answers would be greatly appreciated.
