The Rotary Club of Swainsboro held its July 30, 2018 meeting at Catered Creations in Swainsboro. Al Lawson Jr. welcomed everyone to the meeting. Richard McNeely provided the invocation and John Allen Bailey led the pledge, and Rotary Four-Way Test.

McNeely called on Gail Ware to introduce her guests from Southeastern Technical College. Gail introduced Blythe Wilcox, Executive Director of Institutional Advancement and Teresa Coleman, Vice President for Academic Affairs.  Both ladies are fellow Rotarians from the Vidalia Rotary Club.

Richard McNeely introduced his wife Renae who presented the program, Little Free Library. Little Free Libraries are free book exchanges. The library is a receptacle or book sharing box that houses the free books. These receptacles (free libraries), located throughout the community, are typically found in neighborhoods. Many Little Free Library boxes are often very creative designs and can be very unique to make “wanting to read” really fun. Readers can take a book or take a book/leave a book. Little Free Library is also the recipient of the National Book Foundation’s Innovations in Reading Prize, Library Journal’s Movers and Shakers Award, the Women’s National Book Association’s Second Century Prize, the Force for Positive Change Award, and the Library of Congress Literacy Award. There are more than 70,000 Little Free Libraries in 85 countries with millions of books exchanged annually. Learn more about Little Free Library at

McNeely provided a list of the New York Public Library’s “50 Books You Should Read in a Lifetime” and a list of the “100 Great Children’s Books – 100 Years” for each Rotarian. She ended her presentation by involving the Rotarians with a fun quiz on quotes from the books.

The Rotary Club of Swainsboro is a unit of Rotary International and a member of District #6920. Rotary International is a partner and friend of Little Free Library.
