Terri Daniel was recently awarded the Beta Sigma Phi Scholarship at East Georgia State College.

An artist, Daniel wanted to attend college and study art since childhood. After raising her three children and surviving a stage three cancer journey, she felt that she had been given a second chance at life. She is a non-traditional student, but still feels that she is a student and works to learn all she can now that the has the opportunity.

“Graduating from East Georgia State College with an Associate Degree in Art will enable me to transfer to Middle Georgia State College, where I will obtain my Bachelor’s Degree in Art,” she said. “My goal is to complete my studies with a Master’s in Art Therapy. This will give me the credentials needed to combine with my own life experiences so I can help children and adults through counseling and Art Therapy.”

The Beta Sigma Phi Non-Traditional Scholarship is awarded in the Spring of each year. This $1,000 scholarship is made to a non-traditional (out of high school more than five years) wife and/or mother who has gone back to school. Scholarship and need are part of the criteria, but the major determining factor in selection is the completion of an essay answering the question “What would it mean for you to win this scholarship?”
