Funeral services for Katie Hooks, 62, of Garfield were held Friday, Nov. 24, 2017, at 11 a.m. at Mt. Olivet Baptist Church with Rev. Jim Harrell and Rev. H. G. Ridgdill officiating. Interment followed at Mt. Olivet Baptist Church Cemetery. She did Monday, Nov. 20, 2017, at East Georgia Regional Medical Center in Statesboro.
Mrs. Katie Hooks was born June 24, 1955, in Kite to the late J. B. and Loree Hopkins Kight. She was a 1973 graduate of Johnson County High School. She also attended Swainsboro Technical College, receiving a degree in cosmetology. After 28 years of service, she retired as a bus driver from the Emanuel County Board of Education. Her passion was loving and mothering children, fostering more than 250 children in her lifetime. Hooks was an exceptional wife and mother, and she was a member of Mt. Olivet Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Ronnie Kight, and brother-in-law, Bobby McKenzie.
Survivors include her husband of 45 years, Larry Hooks of Garfield; five daughters, Jessica (Adam) Smith, Paula (Joseph) Kincaid, Kati-Brooke Hooks, and Jada Hooks, all of Garfield, GA and Wendy Hooks of Portal; four sons, Mickey (Leslie) Frederick, Robbie Hooks, Zach Hooks, and Cliff Hooks, all of Garfield; two sisters, Cathy McKenzie of Twin City and Faye (Carl Wayne) Bishop of Oak Park; and seven grandchildren, Seth, Parker and Landon Frederick, Clay Smith, Leta, Paiyzli and Kaybrie Kellum.
Pallbearers were Heath Asbell, Chris Morton, Ronnie Beasley, David Marsh, Carl Wayne Bishop, and Joseph Kincaid. Honorary escorts were the Twin City bus drivers.
