JC BuxtonFuneral services for J.C. Buxton, 85, of Kite were held Saturday, April 23, 2016 at Kite Church of God at 1 p.m. with Reverends Allen Meeks and Earl Warnock officiating. Interment followed in the Kite City Cemetery. He died Thursday, April 21, 2016 at his residence following an extended illness.

Mr. J.C. Buxton was born August 23, 1930 in Lancing, Tenn. to the late John Buxton and Ruth Collins Buxton. He lived in Kite for the past 39 years. Buxton began working with Southern Railroad in 1949, starting out as a laborer and worked his way up to track supervisor. In 1967, he was put in charge of the entire southern territory, with his headquarters being in Swainsboro. Buxton retired from Southern Railway in 1987. He then began driving a school bus for Johnson County, and after many years, he went to Emanuel County to drive a school bus, where he retired in 2013 with 20 years at the age of 82. Buxton was a faithful member of Kite Church of God, and he was the patriarch of The Buxtons, signing gospel music for 25 years. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife of 60 years, Thelma Buxton.

Survivors include his daughter, Regina (George) Archer of Twin City; sons, Michael (Ann) Buxton of Kite, Randy (Mary Jo) Buxton of Kite and Freddie (Penny) Buxton of Oak Park; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; sister-in-law, Martha Collins; brother-in-law, Joe Kidd; cousin, Rita Ruffner; many more “grandchildren” that grew up on his school bus; his special family of caregivers, Brittney McReynolds, Kathy Brown, Jodi Hackle, Jada Weeks and Pruitt Hospice of Swainsboro; and several nieces, nephews and friends.

Pallbearers were Mike Buxton, John Buxton, Ashley Claxton, Andrew Claxton, Charlie Lindsey, Aaron Buxton, Cole Buxton and Chase Lindsey.

Chapman Funeral Home of Swainsboro was in charge of arrangements.
