Mr. and Mrs. Gary Gene Howell of Soperton, celebrated 50 years of marriage at a surprise anniversary luncheon June 23, 2012 at Adrian Baptist Church in Adrian. Gary Gene Howell and the former Arlethea Sue Moore were married June 22, 1962 in Macon where they both resided at the time.

Family and friends attending the celebration enjoyed a buffet of southern fried chicken, macaroni and cheese, green beans and rolls. The magnificent anniversary cake, displayed on a gold satin covered round table graced with greenery and candles, was baked, decorated and served by Mrs. Connie Flanders of Kite. The four-layered confection was beautifully decorated with faux white roses, gold ribbon and a gold 50th cake topper embellished with rhinestones.

Rectangular tables were arranged around the room and decorated with white cloths, gold satin runners, gold branches embellished with white flowers arranged in crystal vases and a mixture of votive and floating candles. A gold favor box with 5 pieces of gold-foiled candy was placed at each setting as a thank you to each guest. The chairs were beautifully covered with gold satin.

A special point of interest for the guests was a table adorned with gold framed pictures of the couple from their wedding and through the years.  A scrapbook, created by Kimberley Howell, daughter-in-law of the couple, was also on display. The guests enjoyed viewing a DVD presentation entitled “50 Years of Love”, which highlighted special moments of the couple’s life from their childhood until present times. The DVD was lovingly created by their granddaughter, Hayley Howell.

The honored couple’s family attending the celebration were Scott, Kimberley, Reid, and Angela Howell, sons and daughters-in-law; Houston, Hayley, Kaycey, and Lacey Howell, grandchildren, all of Soperton; Ada Pruett, mother of the bride, of Adrian; Evelyn Howell, mother of the groom, of Macon; Dennis and Martha Moore, brother and sister-in-law of the bride, of Marietta.

The couple had a very enjoyable day and received many nice gifts.
