Oxley assumes duties at GREDC

Matt Oxley, P.E., Georgia Tech Economic Development Institute employee, recently assumed duties as the Georgia Rural Economic Development Center (GREDC) Entrepreneur Outreach Specialist to assist the center in supporting technology-based entrepreneur growth in rural Georgia. Oxley replaces Patrick Wilbanks, who is moving to the new Georgia Centers of Innovation Office in Savannah. Patrick will continue to provide the same valuable entrepreneur services in a new service area. Oxley will work out of the GREDC located on the campus of East Georgia College in Swainsboro.
Oxley is an entrepreneur and has successfully owned/operated a number of businesses to include a corporate wellness company, a manufacturing company which employed 300 employees, and a manufacturing company with 110 employees. Oxley also has an extensive banking background having worked in the banking business for over 20 years.
Oxley is extremely active in his community. Currently he is active in the Toombs/Montgomery Chamber of Commerce Entrepreneur Support Committee, the Meadows Regional Hospital Authority, the Kiwanis Club of Vidalia, Boy Scout Troop 933 Vidalia, and the United Way of Toombs/Montgomery and Wheeler counties. He previously served in numerous local leadership positions to include, Toombs County Commissioner, Chairman of the Toombs County Development Authority, President of the Lyons Chamber of Commerce, and President of the Vidalia Area Georgia Tech Alumni Club.
Oxley graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology with a degree in Aerospace Engineering. He received his MBA-Management from Georgia State. He holds a Professional Engineering License in Industrial Engineering.
Oxley’s entrepreneurship efforts for the GREDC focus on areas to create and to retain high value, long-term private sector jobs. Some of these areas are:
• Management and technical assistance to entrepreneurs and existing small start-up companies.
• Development of entrepreneurs into suppliers for large Georgia companies and Federal/State agencies.
• Coordination of services to entrepreneurs through agencies such as the Small Business Administration, the Small Business Development Centers, the Department of Community Affairs, the Georgia Department of Economic Development, US Department of Agriculture-Rural Development, and units of Georgia Tech including the Economic Development Institute, the Advanced Technology Development Center, the Georgia Tech Research Institute, and others.
