Department managers at Emanuel Medical Center recently put on hard hats to get a sneak peek at the addition that will encompass 40,000 square foot of new area. Brad Blackmon, Assistant Administrator, Emanuel Medical Center conducted the tours for staff. “We are still several months from completion, but excitement is building as different areas begin to take shape,” said Blackmon.
An intensive care unit, surgical suites and recovery rooms, eighteen patient rooms, a chapel, a lounge for physicians, the materials management department, emergency rooms, a laboratory, emergency medical services office and sleep rooms are among the areas being constructed.
“We plan to offer tours prior to the completion of the project to civic clubs, community leaders and other interested individuals,” said Beth Spencer, Director Community Relations. “We will hold an official open house and ribbon cutting upon completion, but the new addition is very impressive, and we want the community to see how this will benefit their medical care.”
The first move into the new addition will be relocating the Department of Emergency Medicine temporarily into the new ICU area. This action will enable the construction to begin renovations in the Emergency Department without having patients in the area. This move will also speed up the renovation process without disrupting patient care. Renovation of the Emergency Department is estimated to take two months.
Once the Emergency Department has moved back to its permanent location, ICU will relocate to its new area. Then final construction will begin to complete the addition of two new operating suites, endoscopic room and new recovery rooms.
Anticipated completion of the project is late summer.
