Basketball season came to an end for the David Emanuel Academy girls basketball team as the Lady Eagles were defeated 35-25 by Westwood in the opening round of the Georgia Independent School Class A state tournament at Darton College in Albany.

DEA got off to a great start in the game as they were able to get the ball inside to post player Macy Fagler who was able to draw fouls and get to the line. Fagler hit all six of her free throw attempts as the Lady Eagles built a 11-5 lead after one quarter of play. In the second period, Westwood also has success working the ball into the post and they were able to convert some field goals. By halftime the Lady Wildcats had cut the lead to one at 16-15.

Westwood took the lead for good in the third quarter as they continued to find shots in the paint while keeping DEA in check by playing a sagging zone defense. The Lady Wildcats outscored DEA 20-9 in the second half.

Macy Fagler led DEA with eight points, scoring her entire sum with a 100 percentage at the foul line. Casey Johnson with six points, Kayla Cody with five points, Amanda Cardell with four points and Whitney Williams with two points also scored in the season ending loss. Seniors Leah Lanier, Lindsay Tomlinson and Emily Redding all played in their final basketball game at DEA.
