Outlook luncheon held at EGC

On Jan. 11, over 100 participants, representing numerous counties in the region, gathered at East Georgia College to hear the state, and national and regional economic forecasts for 2005. In 1999, Emanuel County’s Joint Development Authorities requested that they be allowed to host the first Rural Georgia Economic Outlook Luncheon. Historically, the Outlook Luncheons were always held in the metropolitan areas. The first year’s event was such a success that it was decided to make it an annual event. Sponsors of this year’s event were the East Georgia College Foundation, and the Georgia Rural Economic Development Center.
The event began with a welcome from Dr. Tim Goodman, Vice President for Academic Affairs and Student Services at East Georgia College. Following lunch, Dr. P. George Benson, Dean of the University of Georgia’s Terry College of Business, presented the state and national economic forecasts. Following Dean Benson, Jim Williams, Vice President of Economic Development at Swainsboro Technical College gave the regional forecast as well as other pertinent demographic data.
